I have been thinking.. yes, I have on occasion been known to think... I in no way dislike my life, I have a wonderful family, I love my job and I have some of the best friends any man could ask for. However, I really think I need a change of venue. There are so many wonderful places in the world! I have been fortunate enough to see some of them, but I wish to see many, many more. In particular, I would like to see more of Asia. I would actually love to live in Asia eventually, when I find a suitable location. I must admit, a large part of that is down to the food, but it is not just that. I think most people that have been to places like Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, etc, would agree that it is a completely different way of life. People mostly will treat each other with far more respect than we do in the West. Family and friends are a much bigger part of people's lives there and the culture and traditions are so rich and fascinating. I think my plan is that eventually I will move to Asia, that is where I would prefer to raise a family. Not sure when this will happen, or where exactly I will go, but I will have to get a shifty on, I am now 30.. time's a wasting!
I have also been thinking more on this food blog idea. I love to cook almost as much as I love to eat. I also love to learn new recipes as often as possible. I have mostly been concentrating on Chinese Malaysian cooking, as this is by far my favourite. I do however dabble in Italian, Spanish, Thai, Indian, Japanese and various other cuisines, including of course traditional British cooking. So here's the idea... The food blog will not only be reviews of restaurants and various dishes, but also a cook book. Most of my recipes are in my head and I have no set measures for most of the ingredients I use, but I will try to at least give a rough indication of how much of a particular ingredient to use to create a dish. It is also probably best to mention that many of the recipes I have learned in the past from friends, family and people I have met on travels over the years, I have since adapted slightly. Sometimes this is due to not having certain ingredients readily available in the UK. Other times will be because I prefer it slightly differently to the way it is typically made. Regardless of any of this, most of the dishes I cook are fairly traditional and easy to prepare.
I am going to try to start this new blog this week at some point, so I will keep ya posted. In the mean time, if you are interested in trying some easy and amazing traditional Malaysian dishes, check out rasamalaysia.com. This is a fantastic site dedicated to "Easy Asian Recipes". I have worked my way through most of the site already and the lovely lady from this site really is a food Goddess!! The recipes are easy to follow and taste incredible. Please go there and take a look, it will not be a wasted click, I promise ;).
