Everyone else was doing it :|

Hello World!

I have decided to write a blog.. I have no real reason to explain why, except that everyone else was doing it and I felt left out.

So, I am going to start with a bit about myself. My name is Martin, I live in Waterlooville, Hampshire in Sunny ol' England. I am 29 (30 in a few days :| ). I work in Sales Management for a domestic appliances company and also run a small Music Management and Promotions company in my spare time, although to be honest I have not done much of this over recent months. I have a wide range of interests (most of them pretty dull) including:

Music - Mostly Rock, Punk and Metal but have to admit to liking a little Classical music, Irish folk, and some of the classical musical numbers. I try to stay clear of most of this pop crap they are polluting the sound waves with these days :p

Reading - I LOVE a good book. I am a Terry Pratchett addict, his Discworld series are, put simply, GENIUS! They are funny as hell and incredibly well written. I do have some other favourites.. I read "The Collector" by John Fowles when I was doing my A Level English Literature.. I have read it at least half a dozen times since.

Golf - I love golf! I do not care what anyone says, it is NOT just a game for old men :p. I used to think so until I actually tried it. It is a game of skill and strategy, often played in beautiful surroundings. I have been playing for about 6 years and.. I SUCK AT IT!!! However it is still a fantastically enjoyable game to play.

Movies - I love movies but I am not a cinema junkie. I don't have a particular genre, I like a bit of everything, horror, comedy, romance, action, true stories etc etc.. I am also very into Asian Cinema... Asian movies often a little strange, but usually concentrate more on plot and character development than Western movies do, and let's face it... as far as visuals go, movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers still blow The Matrix away.

History - I hated this subject at school. It wasn't until my final exam results came in that I actually realised I had learned anything at all. Since then however, I have become heavily intereted in World history. There have been so many events that have changed the way we live, and when you can see similar events happening around the world today it is just amazing to know that in the future we will be looking back saying "That is the day everything changed"!

Psychology - Studied this at college. It was incredibly interesting.. especially when you read about a man that kept trying to put his wife on his head because he thought she was a hat.. and there are millions of other fascinating cases. Psychology is more than that though, learning about why we think and act the way we do, it is comforting in many ways.. although a little disturbing in others :|

Cooking - I have always had a massive interest in food, I am willing to try almost anything at least once. I consider myself fairly well travelled, so have experienced a wide variety of foods. Unfortunately I have to return to the UK each time, and finding those amazing foods here is a little more tricky. So I started to learn to cook, to try and recreate some of the amazing taste I had experienced. BY FAR the most amazing cuisine in the world (in my opinion) is Malaysian Cuisine. It is a fusion of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine and it just simply tastes incredible. This is where I focus most of my cooking and I already have quite the collection of Malaysian recipes.

Eating - Kinda goes hand in hand with the cooking.. I cook it and eat it.. Although I am happy to eat anything that anyone else cooks too :p.

Now that I have bored you to death, I will tell you the direction I will be going in this blog:

I HAVEN'T GOT A SCOOBY (clue)!

I think it will inevitably end up mostly being about cooking. It is one of the few things I am really good at and I love to share recipes. There may well be a spattering about books and movies though.. who knows.. just gonna see where it take me :|.

Well, that will do me for my first post.. really didn't know how I was going to start, but looking back at it now, I should have ended a lot sooner...

Martin out!
